Female

Bisexual

United States

Hi, I‘m Heather. I am Bisexual.

Hi!! I'm Heather, a 30 something openly bi female. I'm currently living in the Hampton roads area of Virginia with my straight boyfriend of 10 years.

What being bisexual means to me

Bisexuality to me just means keeping myself open to quality relationships not based on, or limited by, sex or gender. Male, female, both beautiful to me in their own unique ways.

What I would like the world to know about bisexuals

We are just like you. We do the same things as you, we have feelings like you, we have families like you.

What was your path to a bisexual identity?

I grew up in a strict Mormon household. Being bi was not an option. I spent most of my adolescent life hiding my sexuality from family and friends. Once I went away to college and gained some freedom I was able to live my life more in the open. I was able to hold my girlfriend's hand walking down the street. Something so small changed my entire world. From then on I have openly identified as a bi woman. I have lost a few friends and the respect of a few family members but it's my life. I only get one chance to live it.

What is the toughest thing about being bisexual?

All of the stigmas involved. When other people find out you're bi, some are immediately concerned for the safety of their virtue. Just because I'm bi doesn't mean I want all women. Or all men for that matter!

What is the best thing about being bisexual?

The best thing is being open to love and relationships with a much broader spectrum of people.

How have other people in your life reacted to your bisexuality?

My sexuality hasn't been received well by everyone in my life but the people closest to me haven't budged. They will always be in my corner. ❤

What advice do you have for someone who thinks they may be bi or who is in the process of coming out as bi?

Take things at your own pace. Never let a husband/wife/bf/gf talk you into bisexual acts before YOU are ready. If you're ever ready. When coming out just understand that sometimes people are shallow minded. They may not be ready to hear what you have to say. But that's ok!! You can be your best you whether you have support or not.
