Last year, there was an Internet hoopla about Benjy the Irish bull in the UK who was about to be killed because they thought he was gay. The bull wouldn’t breed, so he was going to be put down.
But, Sam Simon—who was one of the co-creators of the animated classic “The Simpsons”—heard about the story and paid $7,800 to by the bull and send him to a happy animal sanctuary where he can live out his natural life. Simon died of cancer earlier this year.
Turns out, Benjy is bi. The Gay Star News reports that Benjy, who showed no interest in breeding, is thriving at the Hillside Animal Sanctuary. John Watson, who runs the animal haven, said, “When he got here he went nose to nose with a male calf and everyone said it was his first kiss.”
But, then along came a few other female cows. Benjy is now interested in the udder.
“He has gone out to grass with quite a lot of other cows,” Watson said. “He was looking quite happy with a female cow.”
Because they didn’t think he was 100 percent gay, they had to castrate Benjy because they couldn’t take the risk that he would impregnate all the female cows. But, Benjy is happy frolicking with every gender at the farm.
